Go Get 'em, Green
You must bear with me as I learn how to photograph horse racing - man, it's fast. A few weeks ago, the guys here found a Sports Center that has horse racing two days a week. Even though I lived 10 minutes from Ellis Park in Evansville and about 5 mins from Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, IL, I had still NEVER been to a race. I guess I wanted to be cool and decide to go in Chile. Vito (the roadhusband here) got some amazing shots of the horses last time so I was determined to test the photography skills. Apparently I lack them even though I took 3 years of it in high school. Eventually, I will get it again.. just going to take some practice!
We just watched the first race and then decided to bet on the next two. My beginners luck allowed me to double my pesos! I spent 800 Pesos total (~550 Pesos = 1 US Dollar) and won 1800 Pesos. Too bad I couldn't just move a decimal and magically turn that into dollars. I got pictures of both my horses winning - above you can see Numero Dos - 'Green Energy' crossing the finish line and below is probably the best picture I could get. Unfortunately, they raced on the inside track so we had this nice railing to mess with our professional photography skills
The second race, photographed above is of Numero Cuatro - 'Humo Negro' (yes, that was the horses name) and behind it which you can't see is Numero Seis - 'El Pulpo' which won by a lip, literally.
I even took a picture of my winning ticket. Ohhh yeah. Afterwards, we went to a wine tasting at the local wine shop. A couple ladies there speak English and love when we come in. With my winnings, I bought a bottle of wine. Of course.
And on another note.... it's been really shakin' around here. We didn't feel them, but there were 4 recorded earthquakes close by within the last 24 hours. It's neat to follow it here:
