Not what you probably think of as a bakery, but it's an Indian bakery. This nice lady is always frying up stuff every afternoon. We have to walk right past it on our way to the auto/bus stand. I've never bought anything from her, but she always smiles and says hello. I'll eventually try something out, but the smell of that huge pan of oil doesn't make it appetizing, especially in 90 degree weather.
Another Indian dish for you to learn about: Appam - made from fermented rice flour ans served with vegetable stew. Appam is hard to describe.. but has the texture similar to a pancake, only very thin on the edges and thick in the middle. Sometimes coconut or milk cream is added to give it a sweet flavor. Tea lady brought these in for us today for an afternoon snack although it was more like an early lunch.
